Financial Genius At Work

Apparently, the way to Make America Great Again and push it to the top of the global economic heap – where it already ranked, and has for decades, but never mind – is to impose crazyass tariffs on the rest of the world, watch the stock markets collapse, destroy trillions of dollars in wealth and retirement savings, fire tens of thousands of federal government workers, and alienate pretty much all your global trading partners (well, except for Putin/Russia) – all on the off chance that some foreign country will build a plant in the United States that adds another 173 jobs or so.

That’s the Trump economic plan, in a nutshell. Burn down the forest so you can plant a shrub.

He announced the tariffs this week, which you can read about here. Then the U.S. and global stock markets took a giant shit, which you can read about here.

Then we found ourselves with the real possibility that the U.S. economy will go into recession, which you can read about here, and the possibility that lower-income Americans will bear the brunt of it, which you can read about here.

Many of these folks voted for Trump, by the way, because they thought maybe he would oh who the fuck knows? Now they’re about to get the economic crap knocked out of them, but hey, they’re strong! They’re tough! They don’t complain!

Except they do complain – all the GD time, about everything under the GD sun. It will be a real treat to see how they explain their way out of this particular dilemma, knowing that the guy they put their trust in screwed them over in the most stupid-ingenious way.

Trump isn’t worried about all this stuff, you know. He’s rich, he’ll do okay. He swears up and down that everything will work itself out in the end. Juuussssttt give it time, folks. Juuuusssstttt relax. I got this. You can trust ol’ Trump.

And he wouldn’t lie about that, would he? Okay, he’s a convicted liar, which you can read about here and here and here, but still….

He’s a financial genius, ain’t he? Okay, he did bankrupt a lot of businesses, but still….

I have no more words to describe the carnival act that’s going on in America right now. I basically blog about it because I have to get it out of my system in a public forum, because I think my family and friends are sick of hearing about it, so I share it with you, wise and loyal readers. You’re the wind beneath my wings. You’re the soil beneath my feet.

You’re probably sick of hearing about it, too.

Hell, I’m sick of hearing about it.

And I really have nothing to complain about. Our family won’t get hit with the heavy artillery. We’re comfortable, we’re not overly dependent on the stock markets. We have steady jobs that fly under the radar of the budget cutters (so far), we’ve done well with a couple of real estate investments. It’s all good from this perch.

Maybe I should just enjoy the clown show. Because it is a clown show. The president is a clown, and his cult followers are clowns, and his aides and cabinet members and oldest sons are clowns. Clown shows can be fun.

And you know the important thing about clowns?

When the lights go down, and they take their makeup and costumes off, they go right back to being the same old sad, anonymous souls they always were.

And always will be.

  1. You’re echoing a Turkish proverb that says:

“When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn’t become a sultan. The palace becomes a circus.”

Some say the predicted stock market crash is for them to then buy up stocks, before reversing the destructive policies to allow a recovery, enabling them to profit once more in a much bigger way. I don’t know much about such matters, but it seems very feasible with the way things are going.

Personally, I see all of this as more than just a temporary blip. I really see it as the start of a dystopian future…the manifestation of this new world order that was spoken of so long ago. (I’m not a conspiracy nut, but I think elements of that theory are plain to see.)

    1. There is definitely some kind of greater motive at work than Trump bringing back factory jobs to people he could not care less about. I’d say there’s a fair chance that they want to destroy the government and economy and then let the private sector step in and enrich themselves by doing jobs the government used to do.

As for the dystopian future: I’m not convinced that’s where we’re headed. Trump and his idiot/evil minions will get just close enough to the edge that most Americans finally realize what’s at stake — the end of their charmed and comfty lives– and they will step in and vote the current clowns out of office. A lot of damage will be done, though, and a lot of lives turned upside down.

I know your heart lies in Gaza, which is a hell on earth right now. Most Americans have no idea what real problems are, what real suffering is, what real devastation is. The second they get a sniff of it you can believe they’ll go right back to the security of how things used to be before they elected that phony, corrupt, orange-haired asshole president.

Love the Turkish proverb, though…. 🙂

    1. Hey Linda, thanks so much, I really appreciate it! Always nice to get feedback from a thinking adult while our country goes down the crapper because it elected a stupid crooked doofus who wouldn’t win a county commissioner seat in a smart country. Hopefully the thinking adults will grab control again before we turn into the kind of fascist dictatorship we used to read about in textbooks…..

I’m so glad you enjoyed the book as well — great to hear and it means a lot. Hope all is well with you and yours! 🙂
